Teaching – A Truly Noble Profession
A friend of mine was overjoyed at finally landing one of the English teacher jobs available in an educational institution nearby. I was a surprised at his elation. After all, it was just one of the many jobs that are available for talented and educated people in the world. However, he pointed out that teaching youngsters was a very special job where one had the satisfaction of making a difference to the lives of others.
He pointed out that teachers have the ability of making or breaking his life of a young child. Come to think of it, we all remember the efforts of that single special teacher in our student days. It may even be our mother but we always have special place for that special teacher. Most of us have encountered many bad teachers in our lives. However, the presence of a single individual who was interested in us and was prepared to forgive our mistakes made a huge difference.
I would be lying if I said that the argument did not have an effect on me. I suddenly felt that my work was very futile and that I ought to be doing something better with my life. Well, you don’t have to be English teacher to make a difference to the lives of others. A visit to the local orphanage and spending a few hours towards the educational pursuits of the children living there should be good enough. All one needs is a bit of courage and the desire to be consistent in one’s efforts.
