Travelling across the world gives people the opportunity to experience life in so many different fashions. Whether it is sipping red wine on a gondola in Venice, trekking the towering peaks of the Himalayas or plunging hundreds of feet below the water surface at the Great Barrier Reef, travelling helps people rediscover their passion for living. Without these opportunities to explore our diverse world, life can become monotonous and boring.

How travelling helps you to become self-reliant

I can remember my first visit to Andalucia in southern Spain (famous for its historic landmarks, as well as nail supplies and beauty salons), which I took just weeks after leaving a previous job. Fortunately, with the funds I had received from the redundancy payments, I decided to embark on an exciting trip across Iberia to discover a new side to Europe. During the two week holiday I explored some of Andalucia’s most charming destinations, including Ronda, Granada, Tarifa and the provincial capital, Seville.

This journey, which was the first holiday I had ever ventured on alone in a foreign country, was an excellent opportunity for me to learn how to cope with challenging situations. Whether it was checking in and checking out at a hotel where none of the staff spoke a word of English, asking for directions in a village where the locals couldn’t even understand my Spanish (let alone my English!) or coping with the responsibilities that were usually reserved for my parents or other fellow travellers I learned how to rely on myself. Remembering passports, flight boarding passes, train times and how to spend on budget was the biggest challenge of this trip.

Giving you all the freedom you desire

Travelling alone gives you all the freedom in the world. Whether it is customising your itinerary, choosing where to eat out or shop or choosing what time to wake up in the morning, there are simply no obstacles or limits to what you can do.

Travel agents: do we actually need a human being to help us organise our trips these days? With site after site dedicated to making independent travel simple, the human touch seems unnecessary. But, do we have to watch who we give our information to? Can endlessly typing details into faceless forms have repercussions? The internet has increased its security over the past decade or so, and inputting data onto these sites can be beneficial.

There are companies whose sole purpose is to glean information about the man on the street and his habits, and providing customer data management. This is invaluable to businesses to know who their customer base is and what they want. The independent traveller may be helping the travel business know what is best and what needs improving for future travellers.

Some would still argue for the nice lady in the travel shop; a personable service to organise everything for you, right down to your croissant on the balcony in the mornings. More often than not, it is nice to know you will have someone to blame when it all goes wrong! To the inexperienced internet booker, it can all be a little scary – what if my reservation is lost? What if I don’t have a seat on the plane? What if the hotel is a total dive? These are all worries that only disperse in time and knowledge.

There are so many travel sites, it is hard to distinguish between those that are trustworthy or not. Small print is often very well hidden on rip-off sites, so caution is a must. Once a traveller has found his or her favourite site for finding that hostel or cheap flight, they often stick with it. Talking to hardened travellers and explorers is the way forward – nothing beats experience!

Why travel? Most of us pretend that we know the answer to this question. We travel to see new things in life. When I receive this answer, my next question is-what is the difference between you and a bathroom fitter Kingston who travels a lot when catering to different clients? He too sees a lot of new things in life as well. Most persons react negatively to this question and conclude that I am interested in just pulling their leg.

Well, the truth is I am very keen in finding the answer to the second question. If you want to explore new things in life, then each and every second you stand outside in the open is a form of travel. In my opinion, travelers are something more than that.

Travel is all about exploring more about ourselves. How do you react when the last bus for the day has left and you are stranded in the middle of nowhere? Do you have the courage to trust a stranger and walk up to the nearest house to request a place to stay? Or would you believe in yourself and simply spend time huddled under your sweat shirt in the bus stand itself? Or would you start a conversation with an individual who is going to stay awake the whole night and avoid sleeping that night?

Your choice will make a huge difference on your personality. It would also reveal who you are and what you are capable of. We never face these situations in our daily life. We spend a lot of time having perfect control over our lives and ensure that nothing goes wrong. Things are not the same when you travel. Things can go from good to bad very quickly and this can have a huge impact on how you react.

Have you ever had to move into a new place for, say, a better job or a better location? I am sure many of the people reading this would find themselves the hero of this story and this would be absolutely right to claim. The truth is there are many commercial property agents that do their jobs honestly and without considering any cheats on their clients. However, when it comes to residential property, my opinion differs - I have recently been cheated by an agency for my tenancy deposit and a bit of research shows that the unregulated property agencies in the UK have done this to many other people.

I moved into a property for the duration of one year and I paid a deposit. After I understood I would be relocated to another office i decided not to renew my tenancy agreement. But this is when I realized that the amount of money I paid as a deposit would not be returned to me as it should be once the property is given back in good condition and without any additional damages incurred.

I stayed in this property for one year without even being able to change an inch - everything I found there I left in perfect condition. But then the deposit I gave was not returned - the people from the agency made some ridiculous checks on the property and they announced that the money I invested as a deposit has been exhausted for ’cleaning procedures, refreshment of the flat after leave and garbage collection’. I do not quite understood these reasons as I left the place in almost perfect condition excluding a broken glass that I accidently dropped.

So the unregulated estate agency procedures keep taking victims - some 100 people are complaining from unfair treatment by their agencies almost every weak. My question is when would the government start regulating the estate rental market and when would tenants get some actual state protection for their money inputs and invested deposits.

A friend of mine was overjoyed at finally landing one of the English teacher jobs available in an educational institution nearby. I was a surprised at his elation. After all, it was just one of the many jobs that are available for talented and educated people in the world. However, he pointed out that teaching youngsters was a very special job where one had the satisfaction of making a difference to the lives of others.

He pointed out that teachers have the ability of making or breaking his life of a young child. Come to think of it, we all remember the efforts of that single special teacher in our student days. It may even be our mother but we always have special place for that special teacher. Most of us have encountered many bad teachers in our lives. However, the presence of a single individual who was interested in us and was prepared to forgive our mistakes made a huge difference.

I would be lying if I said that the argument did not have an effect on me. I suddenly felt that my work was very futile and that I ought to be doing something better with my life. Well, you don’t have to be English teacher to make a difference to the lives of others. A visit to the local orphanage and spending a few hours towards the educational pursuits of the children living there should be good enough. All one needs is a bit of courage and the desire to be consistent in one’s efforts.

The whole what’s-better-cheaper-or-more-expensive thing absolutely does my head in, because for everything the rule is totally different, as follows:

1) Cars: cheaper can mean a great car. A car for life which you can repair yourself. It can also mean a car which is a total nightmare and costs you the earth. You just don’t always know which one it’s going to be…

2) Meat: everyone knows that cheap supermarket chicken is pumped full of all kinds of nasty stuff. But they still buy it. This would make you think that all cheap food products are to be avoided, except here’s where it gets tricky. My favourite cottage cheese is the cheapest stuff from my local supermarket. There you go, the rules change yet again.

3) Fruit: cheap fruit sounds awful, but in fact my cheapest fruit and veg comes from the market and it’s much better quality than any supermarket stuff.

See? It’s all just one big conundrum you just can’t seem to escape!

To make sure that I now get the best deals, I have developed a system, irrelevant of cheap or expensive price tags. I ask myself:

1) Does this thing – these vegetarian recipes or this bicycle helmet – do the job it’s supposed to? If it does then I need it, and cost is secondary.

2) Is the food ethically produced? If it is then I don’t mind paying a bit more.

3) Is the car I want to buy in good nick? I’d rather pay an expert to give it the once over before I buy it. This means I won’t buy a banger and end up spending loads of money.

So, you see, it is possible to win. You just have to give it some careful consideration along the way and realise that no two rules are ever the same.

Similar Posts:
Things You Can Do Other Than Drink : I have been on antibiotics…
The Future? : I’m in business, am well up with the latest…
Why Bristol is great : Everyone knows that Bristol is great,…

There are a lot of good reasons not to bother wasting your life trying to achieve things, as follows:
1) It’s a lot of effort. Clearly if you are a major lazy-bones then that’s going to present its problems.
2) It takes time.
3) Did I say it takes effort? Well it does.
4) It means you might mess up. This means you could be criticized. Is this fun? No, of course not, another good reason.
5) It’s not always fun.

But that’s not my personal opinion, of course. My personal opinion is that it’s always worth bothering. As I will now demonstrate with a very comprehensive…er, demonstration:

1) Effort is often rewarded with accolades such as pride.

2) Pride makes you feel worthwhile and good, which is nice. It makes the days pass by easier.
3) Being active is good for the mind. Oh yeah, and that’s in turn quite good for the body, too.
4) Whatever you do – from designing hybrid cars to hot-air-balloon engineering, it’s plenty of fun and fun makes you smile and smiling is great! But you know that.
5) You may earn extra money doing something you adore. That can’t be bad, can it?
6) You meet more people who are motivated. Motivated people are cool because they inspire you.
7) Basically, doing a lot of stuff is good. You progress as a person, which is never less than fantastic.

That’s why it’s worth bothering, you see. You could always not bother, but then you can’t complain when you get stuck in a dead-end job, can you? No, exactly!

Is there a shortcut to success is what people usually wonder when they are always into some struggle or when they are in a position that requires an unbearable amount of effort and force. This is something we would not usually consider as possible - what shortcut can there be?! However, with the programs of following a good route of reasoning, anything seems to be possible.

Firstly, for example you are heading towards an important exam, you need to realise the importance of such a step. And I am not talking about the importance of the exam about a grade or about a realisation, just about the importance of the exam in relation to the success you aim to achieve. Do not overestimate an exam and do not undervalue it - just place it on the right place considering your current position and your knowledge.

Secondly, never consider things that are far easy to memorize or remember to be extremely difficult. It is important to know that things that are generally put in front of students to cope with, they have been intended to be practiced with not so much of effort. so consider any subject not too difficult otherwise you will lose your confidence and would overestimate the strength of that exam.

Thirdly, you need to always bear in mind that stress - free exam is a successful exam. So stress is not your friend. Even if you face an exam that requires to describe super complicated questions and definitions like asking you about the nature of Microdermabrasion, still stay relaxed - that is the only shortcut I know to successful exam.

Growing up, my Mum used to tell me I never listened. I never listened to her, of course, what did she know? Then at school it was the same thing. Of course, I dismissed that.

And I was fine for years, until one day I bumped into someone I hadn’t seen since Sixth Form.

After an awkward conversation where he told me what he’d done with his life – loads – and I said what I’d done with mine – loads, but not as loads as he had if you get me – he said “you know what your problem is?”

“What?”

“You don’t listen, and now it’s grabbed you by the you-know-what’s.”

And this time? This time I listened. Why? Because nobody had told me this harsh truth for years, and now, as an adult, I could finally appreciate what he was saying.

So I decided to change. Not just change the way I was, but look at how I was living my life, and how my actions affected other people around me. People I trusted and people I had known all my life.

The next time I went to my bank manager for some financial advice I listened. It helped! And the next time I saw my Mum, I took her advice on board.

Since then life has been better, and the journey through life has been greater.

If you are like how I used to be, sort it out, OK? If you don’t listen, trust me, you never learn.

There’s a pressure on you all the time to be exciting and different, isn’t there? It’s not enough to have a decent job and be lucky enough to be in a happy relationship any more, no: now you have to have done something outlandish, like wrestling a crocodile or jumping out of a plane or something.

Well, I’m well and truly sick of it. It’s called the journey through life, isn’t it? It’s not called the let’s get on our high horses and be all outspoken and arrogant all the time.

Last night, it all got on top of me. Me and my friends were sitting there enjoying ourselves one minute, and the next this Russell Brand lookalike was sitting at our table telling us all about how he trained as a ninja. And not just any ninja, but an actual ninja in some temple somewhere.

So I said, “go on then, show us a ninja move” thinking he was full of it.

Then he did a backflip right there and everyone started to clap and I just wanted to die die die.

So the lesson here is not to challenge people, ever, because you never know when it’s going to stand up and slap you in the face. It’s better to just let it slide over you.

Just stick to staring at your phone, pretending that the roaming worldwide charges you have access to are really very interesting. The pain will be gone soon enough, and it’s healthier to just focus upon that.
